5 apps and websites for lazy people living in Milan

cover lazyWhat comes to mind when you think of a lazy person? Someone who rather than go grocery shopping skips dinner instead, or someone that doesn’t wear a coat for over a year because they forgot to take it to the cleaners? Perhaps someone who knows that they should iron all their clothes, but there’s the latest Orange Is The New Black season to watch? Well, I’m one of them. And if it’s true that you should always try to correct your faults, it’s also true that to live a happy life you should know yourself, and there are many tricks for living better, especially if you’re in Milan. If you’re even just a little bit like me, well then you’ll love these 5 apps and websites that will make your lives so much easier.

1. Weygo. Let’s get ready to do the Saturday grocery shop? Perhaps after work? That’s definitely too difficult, at least for me who other than being lazy, lack my own means of transport, and furthermore I live on a pedestrianized street. So the solution is this site: delivery is available within two hours and costs just €3.50, and every week they have competitive offers that rival the big stores. I’m never skipping dinner again!

2. Mamaclean. Last winter I left my duvet in a bag for almost four months while promising myself that I would take it to the cleaners. This time I took the initiative to call the cleaners: they came over and took it away. They cleaned it and placed in a plastic packaging so that it takes up the minimum amount of space possible, and they did this all in a matter if three days. The bonus? They pick up and deliver to different places and their time slots are so flexible that it’s really easy to get organized and book an appointment.

3. Winelivery. Have you organized dinner at home with friends and at the last minute you realise that you finished the last bottle of wine, and you have no desire whatsoever to go to the nearest supermarket? No problem: this service allows you to order your favorite drink, which will be delivered straight to your house in 30 minutes. As the saying goes: “Drown your sorrows (or laziness) in alcohol”.

4. Foorban. Ok, so you have food at home, thanks to suggestion number one, but you do know that it will take some effort to cook it? There’s a solution for this as well: but not the standard food delivery that can be a bit of a wait (you’re hungry!) unless you want to go for the usual pizza. This app actually offers the home delivery of cooked gourmet food, using selected ingredients, within 20 minutes. Also perfect for when you forget to bring lunch to work (or more plausible, you didn’t feel like making it).

5. Ilmiosupereroe. Do you need a babysitter for an impromptu night out? A housemaid who will help you clean the house, a trainer that will peel you off the sofa and take you running, to exercise, or at least for a walk? Search this database of professionals who offer their skills by the hour (they’re all referenced by users) with no obligation to subscribe and better still they’ll come to your house.

The gem. iAmbrogio. My stomach is rumbling slightly. I want a croissant, but I don’t want to leave the house. I’m feeling sick and have run out of medicine. If you’ve always wanted a butler, know that now your dreams have finally become a reality with this app that offers 24-hour pick-up and delivery services for whatever you have to send or receive.

    TBS CREW GOES TO PUGLIA

IMG_3261Sunshine, food and plenty of laughter: these were the main ingredients of our three days in Puglia. We spent three days of utter peace, relax and joy. We chose southern Italy for our yearly pre-holiday season summer trip this year – last year we had been to Mykonos, remember? To be precise, we went to Puglia, to Masseria Torre Coccaro, one of the most beautiful places to stay on the coast between Bari and Ostuni. While the rest of the world went to work on a regular Monday morning, we left, and in just two hours, we found ourselves transported from the oppressive heat of Milan to a wonderful, blinding white paradise that enchanted us right after the first second. The first thing to cast a spell on us was the absolute silence, a break from the usual city bustle that really freed our minds of accumulated stress. The other amazing thing about the place was the very structure we were accommodated in, packed with hooks and crannies where we were able to snuggle up to read a book, have a chat with a friend, or just get lost in our thoughts. Last but not least, we were completely charmed by the warmth of Vittorio and his staff. They were always ready to share their knowledge of local Puglia culture, and share everything else that this land has to offer… Starting with food, we never ate this much in our lives! Pizza, pasta, fresh mozzarella, vegetables prepared in a myriad of ways and lots of fresh, delicious fish.

We spent the first day at the dining table, starting with the rich breakfast that welcomed us here, continuing with the fusion-style lunch that we enjoyed at the Coccaro Beach restaurant, where we ended up whiling away the rest of the day. Our day ended with a wonderful evening of pizza and other local specialties at the masseria, which was also open to the public for a special evening. We didn’t just eat, though: at Torre Coccaro, we also cooked food ourselves. We learned all the secrets of pizza dough preparation, we prepared the dough for ricotta cheese cake, and the toppings for the mozzarella and tomato panzerotti that we enjoyed on the beach. The second morning was dedicated to the discovery of the treasures of local Puglia gastronomy, and to a competition of who was going to make the best orecchiette… The results were kind of passable! In the evening, we went for a visit at the Masseria di Torre Maizza, which has a beautiful olive grove. This was the scenery for our picnic before dinner, which we enjoyed on a terrace with breathtaking scenery. Unluckily, this day that was so beautiful for us was tragic for Puglia: not so far from where we were staying, there was a terrible railway crash, that really upset us all. We tried to go donate blood, but it soon turned out was impossible to go to the closest location for blood donation, Monopoli, and still make it back without missing out plane. We have expressed, and still would like to express, our deepest condolences and to send our affection to the families of the victims, as well as to the general population, who showed its solidarity from the get-go, rushing fast to donate blood and help out as much as possible.

The third day we left the masseria early in the morning and went to Coccaro Beach, to spend the last few hours on the beach: we had our last lunch beachside, our last swim, and then it was already time to leave Puglia and Chiara, too, who was stopping by a few days longer with her family. As for us… We will most definitely come back soon to this wonderful land.

Thanks to Cesare Morisco for these magical days

    [Mykonos, Greece]

We stayed at an Airbnb (Sunday House) in the heart of Mykonos Town.  We were literally on the main street and just steps away from all the restaurants, shops, and night life.  Mykonos is very festive with the streets packed during the day and music radiating from the streets to sunrise.  We rented an ATV and took our time exploring every part and corner of Mykonos.

    Greece-9

    [Athens, Greece]

We had a layover with only a few hours to see Athens.  We hopped in a cab from the airport and headed straight to the Parthenon.  It’s quite magnificent in person with so much history and beauty.  If I may… just a small suggestion when you’re in Athens… go see the Parthenon very early in the morning to escape the crowds (it’s packed!) and to also escape the heat (it gets very hot by late morning!).  We didn’t really have too much time to spend there, but I’d say give yourself an hour or two to really take in everything.  The entrance fee is €20 and it’s about 35 mins by cab from the airport.

    [Oia, Santorini]

We love love Oia!  We did Airbnb again (GeorgOia’s House) in Oia and loved it!  The view was spectacular!  Oia is very quiet, which we greatly appreciated, with rich blue waters and whitewashed cubicles as far as the eye can see.  We spent most of our time just exploring the main areas of Oia and took one day to hike to a cliff driving area.
